The Song of Moses

15 Then Moses and the people of Israel ^(A)sang this song to the Lord, saying,

¹⁹ For when ^(AO)the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, ^(AP)the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea.

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem

6 ^(A)David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. ² And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from ^(B)Baale-judah ^(C)to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts ^(D)who sits enthroned on the cherubim. ³ And they carried the ark of God ^(E)on a new cart and brought it ^(F)out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio,^[a] the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart, ⁴ with the ark of God,^[b] and Ahio went before the ark.

Uzzah and the Ark

⁵ And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, with ^(G)songs^[c] and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals. ⁶ And when they came to the threshing floor of ^(H)Nacon, Uzzah ^(I)put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. ⁷ And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and ^(J)God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God. ⁸ And David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzzah^[d] to this day. ⁹ And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” ¹⁰ So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside ^(K)to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. ¹¹ And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, ^(L)and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household.

¹² And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” ^(M)So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom ^(N)to the city of David with rejoicing. ¹³ And when ^(O)those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, ^(P)he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. ¹⁴ And David ^(Q)danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was ^(R)wearing a linen ephod. ¹⁵ So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.

¹⁶ As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart. ¹⁷ And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it ^(S)in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. ^(T)And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. ¹⁸ And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, ^(U)he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts ¹⁹ and distributed among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, a cake of bread, a portion of meat,^[e] and a cake of raisins to each one. ^(V)Then all the people departed, each to his house.

²⁰ And David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, ^(W)uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants' female servants, as one of the ^(X)vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” ²¹ And David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, ^(Y)who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince^[f] over Israel, the people of the Lord—and I will celebrate before the Lord. ²² I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your^[g] eyes. But by the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor.” ²³ And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.

22 Thus says the Lord: “Go down to the house of the king of Judah and speak there this word, ² and say, ^(A)‘Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah, who sits on the throne of David, you, and your servants, and your people who enter these gates. ³ Thus says the Lord: ^(B)Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And ^(C)do no wrong or violence ^(D)to the resident alien, ^(E)the fatherless, and the widow, nor ^(F)shed innocent blood in this place. ⁴ For if you will indeed obey this word, ^(G)then there shall enter the gates of this house kings who sit on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their servants and their people. ⁵ But if you will not obey these words, I ^(H)swear by myself, declares the Lord, that ^(I)this house shall become a desolation. ⁶ For thus says the Lord concerning the house of the king of Judah:

⁸ “‘And many nations will pass by this city, and every man will say to his neighbor, ^(N)“Why has the Lord dealt thus with this great city?” ^9 (O)And they will answer, “Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and worshiped other gods and served them.”’”

How Precious Is Your Steadfast Love

To the choirmaster. Of David, the ^(A)servant of the Lord.

³¹ And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” ³² And he looked around to see who had done it. ³³ But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. ³⁴ And he said to her, “Daughter, ^(A)your faith has made you well; ^(B)go in peace, and be healed of your ^(C)disease.”

³⁵ While he was still speaking, there came from ^(D)the ruler's house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why ^(E)trouble ^(F)the Teacher any further?” ³⁶ But overhearing^[a] what they said, Jesus said to ^(G)the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” ³⁷ And he allowed no one to follow him except ^(H)Peter and James and ^(I)John the brother of James. ³⁸ They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus^[b] saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. ³⁹ And when he had entered, he said to them, ^(J)“Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but ^(K)sleeping.” ⁴⁰ And they laughed at him. But he ^(L)put them all outside and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. ^41 (M)Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, ^(N)arise.” ⁴² And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement. ⁴³ And ^(O)he strictly charged them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.

That You May Know

¹³ I write ^(A)these things to you who ^(B)believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. ¹⁴ And this is ^(C)the confidence that we have toward him, that ^(D)if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

¹⁶ If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and ^(E)God^[a] will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. ^(F)There is sin that leads to death; ^(G)I do not say that one should pray for that. ^17 (H)All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.

¹⁸ We know that ^(I)everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but ^(J)he who was born of God ^(K)protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and ^(L)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and ^(M)has given us understanding, so that we may know ^(N)him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and ^(O)eternal life. ²¹ Little children, ^(P)keep yourselves from idols.
